Based on the data of 427 meteorological stations in Chinese Mainland from 1961 to 2018, a daily SPEI dataset was established to overcome the shortcomings of rough monthly SPEI time scale. This dataset can not only be used to identify the start and end dates of drought events, but also to study meteorological, agricultural, hydrological, and socio-economic droughts at different time scales.
